Part 1. Gipeunsarang
Echoes of Vanished Sounds, Revived on Stage
"Gipeun Sarang" ("Deep Love") was once a temporary underground gathering place, carved out by village men during the agricultural off-season. In this space, known as the deep sarangbang, devoted listeners (gwi-myeongchang) would invite master singers to perform through the night, finding comfort and healing in the power of song.
Though this tradition of Gyeonggi folk songs has faded into history, the memories and moments shared within Gipeun Sarang still echo in the hearts of those who once passed through.

A Forgotten Tradition, Breathing Again
Gyeonggi folk singer Lee Hee-moon does not merely preserve tradition—he revives it.
Through his work, long-lost sounds and cultural practices are brought back to life, reinterpreted with emotional depth and contemporary sensibility.
This performance seeks to vividly recreate a moment from the 1970s, when gwi-myeongchang and sorikkun (folk vocalists) would sit face to face in the Gipeun Sarang, sharing the stories of their lives through song.

The Audience Becomes Today’s Gwi-myeongchang
On this stage, the audience is not just a passive observer.
In this extraordinary moment where tradition and the present meet,
you become the gwi-myeongchang of today—listening, remembering,
and engraving the sound deep within your heart.
Come, journey into the time of Gipeun Sarang—and feel its soul awaken once more.
